Jim King, RIP

March 24, 2010

virgotex forwarded this email from Randy Herbert about die-hard Homicide and The Wire expert Jim King:

I’m not sure how many of you followed the boards created and maintained by Jim King. He started AOL fan groups for “Homicide: Life on the Street” and evolved into “The Wire”. When AOL dropped its support, Jim set up new boards under Borderline Productions and maintained them with almost daily updates. I would venture that Jim knew and communicated more about these two shows than anyone ever realized. I was fortunate to have met and spent time with Jim when he traveled to Baltimore to attend the well-known fundraisers held to benefit the children of Baltimore’s poorer communities. Jim died on November 25, 2009 in Eugene, Oregon. I finally managed to connect with his sister, who has told me much about his life and his love for our favorite TV series.  The Borderline sites are still there, although inactive since mid-November:
The Wire

Homicide: Life on the Street

There is talk of finding someone to continue Jim‘s commendable work over the years. His family is trying to see if that might be possible with Borderline. Your suggestions and/or help would be much appreciated.

I didn’t know Jim as well as virgotex or Ashley, I only got to know him a little during the last season of The Wire, but he had an encyclopedic  knowledge about all things Simon.  We stole his material with abandon, I don’t think we could have done as much with New Package without him as a resource.

He will be missed.
